Amanda Knox Returns to Italy in New Hulu Documentary

SEATTLE – A new documentary from Hulu follows Amanda Knox, a Seattle resident, as she returns to Italy for the first time in over 15 years since her murder conviction was overturned.

“Mouth of the Wolf: Amanda Knox Returns to Italy” will begin streaming on Monday, January 26, on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for subscribers in the U.S.

Ms. Knox, who was once a student at the University of Washington, was studying abroad in Italy in 2007 when her roommate, Meredith Kercher, was murdered. In 2009, she was convicted of murder and sentenced to prison. She spent four years in custody before being released, and in 2015, the Italian Supreme Court fully acquitted her, ending a protracted legal battle.

The documentary follows Ms. Knox more than 15 years after the initial conviction, as she returns to Italy, confronting the locations and people involved in one of the 21st century’s most closely watched criminal cases. According to the film, Ms. Knox continues to face public scrutiny and personal trauma despite her acquittal.

Currently living in the U.S., Ms. Knox returned to Italy after being invited to be a keynote speaker at the Italian Innocence Project conference in Modena. Cameras record her journey as she navigates public attention, personal anxieties, and the emotional weight of returning to the country where she was once imprisoned.

“Mouth of the Wolf” is directed and filmed by Christopher Robinson, Ms. Knox’s husband. The documentary offers an intimate look at the events depicted in Hulu’s scripted series from 2025, “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox,” which is also currently streaming.

The film includes a rare meeting between Ms. Knox and Giuliano Mignini, the Italian prosecutor who led the case against her. It also features accounts from other individuals who have been wrongly convicted, focusing on their experiences within the justice system and the lasting impact of wrongful convictions.
